Friendship Public Charter School (FPCS) is seeking a dynamic, culturally responsive ESL Coordinator to lead and support our English Learner (EL) programming across campuses. The ESL Coordinator ensures that our multilingual students receive high-quality instruction, equitable access to learning opportunities, and targeted supports to thrive academically and socially.

This role serves as a bridge between instructional teams, compliance requirements, and community engagement—ensuring all EL services meet federal, state, and local mandates while advancing Friendship’s commitment to excellence for all learners.

Responsibilities

Program Leadership & Compliance

  • Oversee the planning, implementation, and monitoring of ESL programs across FPCS campuses.
  • Ensure compliance with federal and local regulations including Title III, WIDA standards, and OSSE requirements.
  • Manage EL identification, placement, annual ACCESS testing, and exit procedures.
  • Maintain accurate EL records and support audit readiness.

Instructional Support & Professional Development

  • Provide coaching and professional development to general education and ESL teachers on sheltered instruction, scaffolding, and culturally responsive strategies.
  • Collaborate with curriculum and instructional leaders to ensure ELs are supported in all content areas.
  • Analyze EL student achievement data to identify trends, inform instruction, and support interventions.

Family & Community Engagement

  • Partner with families of English Learners to promote engagement, communication, and access to school programs.
  • Provide interpretation/translation support or coordinate services when necessary.
  • Facilitate workshops and information sessions for EL families about academic expectations, assessments, and student supports.

Collaboration & Leadership

  • Serve as the ESL point of contact for campus leaders, teachers, and central office departments.
  • Support ESL compliance documentation and reporting for federal grants and local education agencies.
  • Represent FPCS at citywide EL network meetings and contribute to broader initiatives that impact multilingual learners.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, TESOL, linguistics, or related field.
  • Minimum 3 years of successful experience teaching English Learners.
  • ESL or TESOL certification/license.
  • Deep knowledge of second language acquisition, WIDA standards, and Title III compliance.

Preferred

  • Master’s degree in TESOL, bilingual education, or educational leadership.
  • Experience supporting ESL programs in an urban school environment.
  • Strong data analysis skills and experience using data to improve instruction.
  • Bilingual in Spanish, Amharic, French, or other languages commonly spoken by Friendship families.
