The Head of Security (HOS) at Friendship Public Charter School is crucial for maintaining a safe and secure environment for the entire school community. The HOS performs all tasks directly related to providing a safe, secure learning and working environment at their assigned school, including:  supervision of campus-based security staff. The physical security of the building and grounds, the safety of the assigned staff, students, and visitors at the school, and the safeguarding and protection of Friendship Public Charter School system assets.

Responsibilities

  • Supervision and Training: Oversee and train building security staff to ensure they understand their roles and responsibilities in maintaining school security.
  • Emergency Management: Lead all emergency management drills to ensure staff and students are prepared for various scenarios.
  • Building Opening and Closing: Open and unlock the building, grounds, and parking lots to prepare for staff and students. At the end of the day, ensure all doors and gates are secured, and the building alarm system is activated.
  • Security Checks: Conduct searches of personal property, such as briefcases, backpacks, and other bags, to maintain a safe environment.
  • Security Posts: Staff different posts throughout the school to provide appropriate security presence and ensure physical security and asset protection.
  • Security Walk-Throughs: Conduct regular security walk-throughs according to a schedule to identify any security risks or concerns.
  • Incident Reporting: Prepare formal incident reports for submission to the Head of Security when required, documenting significant events or security breaches.
  • Statements and Documentation: Obtain statements from students, staff, or teachers to properly document significant events that occurred during a shift.

Special Requirements:  

  • May be required to work weekends, early  (delete early) evenings, on weekdays and selected holidays.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED, with at least 2 years of security experience (preferably in a school setting).
  • Minimum of 5-8 years of school security officer experience.
  • Valid security certificate or license, along with a satisfactory criminal background check and drug test results.
  • District of Columbia Security Officers license issued by the Metropolitan Police Department.
