The Communications and Social Media Manager will work collaboratively as part of the Friendship Public Charter School (FPCS) communications department, which oversees internal and external communications, media relations, events and other branded initiatives.


Working directly with the Chief Communications Officer (CCO), the Communications and Social Media Manager is responsible for executing strategies and developing content that amplify our mission to develop college-ready scholars from pre-K-12.  All outcomes should support FPCS’ commitment to serve as an educational leader dedicated to the success of our students, parents, staff and broader school communities.




  • Devise and execute communication plans for FPCS initiatives in conjunction with the CCO
  • Write, edit and distribute internal and external communication products including advisories, media releases, branded collateral and website/social media content

  • Pitch and respond to stories and grow media contacts, locally and nationally

  • Manage campus and community office collateral requests

  • Cross post on social channels 2-4 items daily highlighting academic rigor, school activities, student achievements, professional development, and other related news

  • Check-in with campus social media liaisons and community office staff for compelling stories

  • Visit schools to capture photo/video content

  • Track new social media followers, and a list of key social accounts to follow

  • Monitor and provide support for campus social platforms as needed

  • Share social content with team members to support other communication platforms

  • Support community office and campus events


Other Communications Responsibilities: 

  • Provide research and writing support for publications and collateral including the annual report, quarterly FPCS-wide newsletter and campus brochures
  • Monitor Friendship in the media, as well as relevant pubic and public charter school issues


Other Social Media Responsibilities:

  •  Create a monthly social media plan (calendar) that highlights FPCS’ 12 schools. Plan should result in improvements to current social media accounts, ensuring all posts are accurate and reflect the high standards of our schools, students and staff
  • Keep social media fresh by updating cover photo, uploading creative videos and updating administrative details
  • Develop metrics that measure social media effectiveness using the most current evaluation tools
  • Keep up to date with advances in social media technology and the latest social media platforms
  • Other duties as assigned by the CCO


  • Bachelor’s degree and three+ years professional communications/social media experience required
  • Proficiency with social media platforms including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, Tumblr, YouTube, etc.
  • Strong, clear written and verbal communicator, with the ability to tailor messages for different audiences
  • Excellent project manager with the ability to lead and execute multiple time-sensitive projects
  • Experience with online marketing, social analytics tools
